Alfuth, Shirley E.

Shirley E. Alfuth, age 86, of Waupaca, Wis., passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at her home with her family beside her.

Shirley was born in Waupaca on January 23, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Braatz) Lilteich. She had been married to Thomas S. Alfuth.  Shirley worked many years at the Wausau Hospital in the Pediatric, Psychiatric and Post Anesthesia Recovery Departments, as well as a part time job on weekends in a Half Way House. Helping others was a big part of her career. Shirley enjoyed her life with great enthusiasm. She always had a kind word and never raised her voice to anyone. Her talents were extraordinary; sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, needle point, elaborate “garage sales” just to name a few. Any task she attempted she did with a positive attitude and completed it with love and patience. Her children were her greatest joy as she showed her love through many hugs, praises for any life accomplishments or making them a batch of caramel corn or Snicker Doodles.
Shirley is survived by her children: Richard ( Sandy ) Groeschel, N. Fond du Lac; Steven (Mary) Groeschel, Stevens Point ; Kathy (Bill) Humke, Fond du Lac ; Cindy Engebretson , Plover and Thomas “TJ” (Michelle) Alfuth, North Prairie, WI. Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren (one on the way), also survived along with her sister: Deb (Don) Blair, Wausau and her brother: John (Sue) Strykowski, Wausau . Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and a sister.

A Memorial Service will be on Friday, July 25 at 12 Noon at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with Dr. Richard Alfuth, officiating. Visitation will be on Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
