Comets fall to Thunder, Foxes

Waupaca came out on the short end of a 3-2 score Sept. 5 in a nonconference matchup of boys’ soccer team.

The Comets also dropped a 5-1 Eastern Valley Conference decision Sept. 2 to Fox Valley Lutheran.

Luis Jorgensen put the Comets on the board 17 minutes into the game after converting a penalty kick, but the Thunder came back with goals from Jared Schmidt and Josh Fameree to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Seymour to its lead three minutes into the second half on Paolo Lassila’s goal. Frankie Ellingson found the net for the Comets with eight minutes to go.

The Foxes broke a 1-1 tie with four unanswered goals.

Jordan Wendt converted a penalty kick six minutes into the game to put the Foxes on the board, but Waupaca’s Evan Bolwerk tied the game in the 30-minute mark.

Tadao Shimura put the Foxes up for good with three minutes left in the first half and teammates Nikolai Noffke, Nathaniel Radtke and Colton Maxwell scored in the second half.

FVL outshot the Comets 15-7 and Steven Canterbury had 10 saves for Waupaca.

The Comets hosted Wausau Newman Sept. 9 and will compete Saturday, Sept. 13, in the Wausau West Invitational. Games are scheduled to get under way at 9:30 a.m.
