Manawa to host Firefest

The second annual Firefest offers fun for children and adults from 1-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Conroy’s Bear Lake Campground & Resort, N4715 State Highway 22-110, Manawa.

All proceeds will benefit the Manawa Rural Fire Department and be used for updating equipment and continued promotion of fire prevention.

Featured at Firefest 2014 are: Free bicycle give-aways, bean bag tourney, kid’s activities, trick or treating, haunted hayride, and various raffles.

A total of 10 bicycles will be given away.

Any child age 12 and under may register at the event for the free give-away. Winners must be present for the hourly drawings.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Josh Smith, a total of 153 children registered for the eight bikes that were given away last year. With an increase in sponsorships, the MRFD is able to offer 10 bikes this year, at an estimated cost of $100 each.

Children’s activities from 1-5 p.m. will include pumpkin painting, coloring contest, mini golf tournament, and costume judging.

There will also be fire truck tours and a chance to meet Smokey Bear and Fire Pup.

Trick or treating through the campgrounds will begin at 5 p.m., with the haunted hayrides starting at 6 p.m.
The bean bag toss tournament will begin at 1 p.m., with registration held prior to the event. The cost is $20 per team, with a 50 percent payout.

Food available at Firefest will include hot dogs, hamburgers, brats and fresh cheese curds.

Music will be provided by a deejay from 6-10 p.m.
