Manawa couple charged with forgery

A man and woman from Manawa have been charged with cashing checks from a dead person’s bank account.

Lakeshia M. Vanstraten, 22, is charged with three felony counts of uttering a forgery and one count of attempted forgery.

Andrew L. Schucknecht, 23, is charged with two counts of uttering a forgery.

On July 1, Vanstraten’s mother told an Outagamie County deputy she suspected Vanstraten and Schucknecht of stealing two checks and cashing them at the Citgo station in Manawa.

A day later, she reported checks were missing from a lockbox that had belonged to her late father-in-law.

On July 7, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Clint Thobaben was dispatched to East Side Mobil Express in Waupaca.

Staff at the store reported several checks totaling $420 had been cashed there by Schucknecht and Vanstraten and were returned because the account had been closed.

Vanstraten allegedly tried to cash one of the checks at the Northport BP station, but one of the store’s owners knew the account holder had passed away.

Since July, Vanstraten and Schucknecht have been charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft and felony bail jumping.
