Lamkins, Blanche E. (McKay)

Blanche E. (McKay) Lamkins, 100, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Sunday, October 5, 2014. 

Blanche was the daughter of the late William John and Anna (Bork) McKay, Marion. She married Lowell A. Lamkins on December 23, 1933. He preceded her in death July, 1998. Preceding her in death were all of her brothers and sisters: Glen (Gladys) McKay, Henry (Alma) McKay, Lynwood (Viola) McKay, Harry (Etta) McKay, Cecil “Pat” (Bernice) McKay; Della (Tom) Corwin and Beatrice (Albert) Malueg; Cora (Tony) Barron, and Della (Ralph) Jensen. She is survived by her children: Betty (LeRoy) Stevens, Green Bay; Roy (Gloria) Lamkins, Ogdensburg; Russell (Sandi) Lamkins, Bonita Springs, Florida; Cheryl (Mort Seagal) Lamkins, Rockford, Illinois; and Gary (Linda) Lamkins, Ogdensburg and special niece, Patti (McKay) Laux. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Donna (John) Paters, New London; Sandra (Jim) Baer, Appleton; Blanche had 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. 

Blanche grew up in Marion and as a child attended the Methodist Church where she sang a solo. She and Lowell started their married life in Marion and then moved to Ogdensburg where they farmed and raised their seven children. She was vice president and a charter member of the Block School Friendship Club and a member for over 70 years. She loved gardening, watching and feeding the birds, especially the hummingbirds. Blanche liked to cook and she was famous for her lemon meringue pie. She was mentally sharp to the very end. She liked to keep journals and track of the family and surroundings. 

The family wishes to thank the Comforts of Home in Iola for her compassionate, loving care for the past several months. Services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 with visitation starting at 9:00 and services beginning at 11:00 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home, Waupaca.
