Lost arts focus of Taste of Norway

Norwegian pastries, lefse making and other crafts were featured at Iola’s fifth annual Taste of Norway and Lost Arts Fair Saturday, Oct. 4.

The event was held at the Iola Historical Society Complex and also included a craft fair.

Demonstrations throughout the day included lefse making, rug weaving, corn shelling and other lost arts.

Members of the Northland Lutheran Church demonstrated how to make pastries such as lefse, smultrenger (fry cakes), krumkaka, sandbakkels, rosettes and fattigman.

Proceeds from the event will help with the restoration of the historic Iola and Northern Railroad depot and other features at the Iola Historical Society.
