Crash into home leads to arrest

Police arrested Eric C. Biekkola, 24, New London, after he allegedly drove his car into a home.

At about 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, New London Police officers Chase Schroeder and Mike Harlow were dispatched to the 1800 block of Pershing Street in response to a car crashing into a home. The home’s owner told dispatch he could hear gas leaking out of a pipe, and his family was evacuating the house.

The officers found a black four-door Audi smashed into the east side of the house. Nobody was inside the car.

A witness told police he had seen a man running away. Harlow located Biekkola on the 1500 block of Jefferson.

According to the criminal complaint, Biekkola said he did not know who had been driving his car. He reportedly said it had been stolen and he had been chasing the suspect in his girlfriend’s car.

Harlow escorted Biekkola back to the scene of the crash. The witness identified Biekkola as the man he had seen running away.

A test indicated Biekkola had a 0.236 blood-alcohol level, nearly four times the legal limit.

Biekkola was convicted of drunken driving offenses in June 2008, July 2009 and May 2012, when his license was revoked for 30 months.
