Pine River man charged with ID theft

A driver with a revoked license is accused of using another man’s name during a traffic stop.

Synjin S. Jenks, 23, Pine River, is charged with identity theft to avoid criminal penalty and operating after revocation.

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 24, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Repinski observed a silver vehicle in the town of Dayton with plates that he believed were registered to a driver whose license had been revoked.

Repinski made contact with the driver, who said he did not have his license with him and identified himself verbally as Cody Simy, according to the criminal complaint.

When asked what he was doing in a vehicle registered to Jenks, the driver said he and Jenks had been at a wedding, and Jenks had gone home in his girlfriend’s car.

Repinski then asked the driver for his phone number and Jenks’ phone number.

When he called what was supposed to be the driver’s number, Repinksi heard a message that it had been disconnected. As he called Jenks’ number, he noticed the driver silence his cellphone.

Repinski later found his own cellphone number listed as a missed call on the driver’s cellphone.
