Murphy, Thomas A.

Thomas A. Murphy, 85, of Eau Claire, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at his residence. 

He was born in New London, WI, on December 25, 1928, the son of Arthur and Agnes (Hurley) Murphy. Tom married Patricia L. Devine on October 28, 1950, in Bear Creek, WI. Tom served in the U.S. Army from June 1951 until his honorable discharge in June 1953. Tom worked as a District Sales Manager for AT&T. Tom was an avid golfer and Packer Fan. He served on the St. Olaf Parish Council and Regis Booster Club, and was also a Red Cross Chairman, Eau Claire United Way Board of Director, Regis School Board Treasurer. He was also a member of the Eau Claire Noon Lions, St. Olaf Men’s Club, and American Legion Post 53. Tom was also a baseball coach for the Babe Ruth team in the early 1970s. 

Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Joan Murphy of Chippewa Falls, Michael Murphy of Eau Claire, Colleen (Craig) Chamberlin of Stillwater and Florida, and Thomas Murphy of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Ryan and Katelin Murphy and Brittan and Jake Chamberlin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James and Gerald Murphy. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St. in Eau Claire, with Father Del Maline and Father William Matzek officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 305. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, and again one hour prior to the Mass, Wednesday, at the church.  Memorials may be directed to St. Olaf Debt Retirement, 3220 Monroe St. Eau Claire, WI 54703.
