Swan Park sled hill opens

The city of Waupaca’s sled hill at Swan Park opened for public use on Nov. 25.

There is no cost to use the sled hill.

It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the hill will be lit from dusk until 8 p.m.

The sled hill is not staffed during open hours, and the city’s Park and Recreation Department encourages all users to follow the rules of use, which are posted both at the base and top of the sled hill.

When walking up the hill, users should walk to the north side of the rope fence to avoid oncoming users.

There is a short run halfway up the hill for anyone who is looking for a shorter ride down the hill and a shorter walk up it.

If conditions on the hill become unsafe for sledding, announcements about the closing of the hill will be made by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Those announcements will be posted on www.waupacaparksnrec.com and via the department’s text messaging service, which may be accessed by texting “waupark” to 888777. Closings will also be announced on WDUX.

The announcements will accompany the signage that will be posted on the hill.

Users are encouraged to park in the new parking lot at the base of the hill.

Visitors should remember that in the event of a large snowfall, the city’s Public Works Department will first clear city streets and higher priority areas before plowing the sled hill parking lot.
