T-Birds edge out Wildcats

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ varsity basketball hosted the Wild Rose Wildcats on Friday, December 12 in a non-conference match-up.

The T-Birds out-scored the Wildcats 17-10 in the first quarter of play, led by Kristian Welch with 9 points.

During the second quarter the Wildcats were able to outscore Iola-Scandinavia 13-11 led by Aaron Vande Castle with 5 points, ending the first half of play with the T-Birds up 28-23.

Scoring in the third quarter was almost even.

Welch put up 7 points for Iola-Scandinavia, while Tanner Hudziak scored 9 for the Wildcats.

Wild Rose came back strong in the 4th quarter of play, led by Vande Castles 6 points. 

With 2:30 left on the clock, the Wildcats took the lead in the game with a score of 52-50.

Zach Mortenson sank a 3-pointer for Iola-Scandinavia with 20.6 left in the game. The Wildcats were unable to score again, giving the T-Birds a 53-52 victory.

Welch led the scoring for Iola-Scandinavia with 18 points, followed by Caleb Loken with 10 and Evan Fuhs with 7.

Vande Castle scored 18 points for the Wildcats, followed by Hudziak with 13 and Nick Erickson with 8.
