One win, one tie, one loss

Waupaca’s boys’ hockey team picked up a 2-1 nonconference win Jan. 30 over the De Pere Voyageurs.

However, the Comets weren’t able to gain any ground in the Great Northern Conference standings, as they skated to a 1-1 tie Jan. 29 with Northland Pines and came out on the short end of a 5-1 score Jan. 27 to Antigo.

Waupaca 2, De Pere 1

DE PERE – Frankie Ellingson broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal in the second period in De Pere.

Matt Fischer put De Pere on the board 2:24 into the game, but Waupaca’s Garrett Johnson tied the game later in the period off of an assist from Elliot Crisman and Austin Erickson.

Erickson and Max Menzies also assisted on Ellington’s goal.

Walker Smith stopped 47 of De Pere’s 48 shots.

Northland Pines 1, Waupaca 1

WAUPACA – Erickson scored Waupaca’s goal with 2:30 remaining in regulation off of an assist from Ellingson and Ben Stone.

Neither team scored in overtime at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center.

The Eagles outshot the Comets 44-25.

Antigo 5, Waupaca 1

WAUPACA – The Red Robins did all of their damage in the second period with five unanswered goals.

Alex Nagel scored twice for Antigo, while Zack Levis, Arin VerHagen and Jed Weix also found the net.

Ben Stone scored Waupaca’s goal in the third period.

The Red Robins outshot the Comets 45-18.

Waupaca returned to GNC play Feb. 3 at home against Mosinee. The Comets will travel to Minocqua Saturday, Feb. 7, to face Lakeland. The boys will take the ice at 2:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ junior varsity team at 4:45 p.m. and the Waupaca Area girls’ team at 7 p.m.
