Beier, Crystal Eileen

Crystal Eileen Beier, age 98 of Waupaca, formerly of Almond died on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

Crystal was born on April 14, 1916 near Blaine in the Town of Belmont, Portage County, the only child of the late Henry and Nellie (Grant) Stinson. She attended Lincoln School and graduated from Almond High School. On August 21, 1934 she married Harland A. Beier. They lived on the Beier farm northwest of Almond several years before moving to Almond village and eventually built a home on Elm Street. There they raised two daughters, Linda Pohl and Betty Ann (Mel) Vowels. After her husband died in 1999, she stayed in the home until 2005 when she moved to Park Vista in Waupaca. From the time of her marriage she was an active and faithful member of the former Guardian Angels Catholic Church (St. Maximilian Kolbe). She was devoted to family and extended family. As the years turned into decades, she was a friend, neighbor, community member, substitute mail carrier on both rural routes out of Almond and hostess at Two Lakes Supper Club. She cooked, baked, knit, sewed, did crafts and quilted, gardened and shared it all. In her later years, she was a font of knowledge to family members and anyone seeking family or local history. Her handwriting was one of the last vestiges of beautiful cursive.

Crystal is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, three grandchildren, Rand Pohl, Heidi (Scott) Pethan and Kelly (Mike) Gustafson, and two great-grandchildren, Jared and Olivia Pethan. She was also preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Holly Pohl.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church and also following the services at a lunch reception at the Almond United Methodist Church. All are invited. Private burial will be in Almond Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, please consider an act of kindness to someone in need. The family acknowledges with gratefulness and deep appreciation the staff and caregivers at Park Vista Living and Bethany Home for their incredible support and loving care of Crystal. Hardell-Holly Funeral Home in Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.
