Eight Bulldog grapplers headed to sectionals

The Bulldog wrestling team competed at a WIAA Division 1 Regional in Neenah on Saturday, Feb. 14. When it was all said and done, eight Bulldogs earned a trip to Sectionals.

The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to Sectionals. New London wrestlers who will compete at Sectionals next weekend include Maddie Ruckdashel (113 pounds), Garrett Ruckdashel (120 pounds), Grant Oswald (126 pounds), Scott Cook (132 pounds), Skylar Moderson (138 pounds), Gabe Oswald (152 pounds), Austin Wyngaard (160 pounds), and Andrew Clauss (195 pounds).

113 pounds

Maddie Ruckdashel started the day with a 12-2 major decision win over Briar Hass of Neenah. She lost her second round match by pin in 1:11 to Matrix Jisko of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and then lost to Appleton East’s Isaac Burchby by pin in 1:23. In the match to determine who would take fourth place, Ruckdashel pinned Appleton West’s Tyler Currie in 3:15, capturing fourth place in her weight class.

120 pounds

Garrett Ruckdashel had a first round bye and then earned a 1-0 win in double overtime against Zachary Scharenbrock of Appleton East in round two. In the first place match, Ruckdashel lost by pin in 4:21 to Patrick Spray of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Ruckdashel took second place in his bracket.

126 pounds

Grant Oswald had a first round bye and then earned a 6-1 decision over Max Benitz of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in round two. In the match for first place, Oswald lost by pin in 3:22 to Hortonville’s Curtis Diedrich. Oswald took second place in his weight class.

132 pounds

Scott Cook had a first round bye and then lost his second round match by an 8-7 decision to Bergh Diebel of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Cook bounced back to beat Dellas Vandenberg of Appleton North by a 13-10 decision in his second match, earning a chance at second place. Unfortunately for Cook, Diebel lost in the first place match, giving him second place by rule. Cook took third place.

138 pounds

Skylar Moderson started the day by pinning Neenah’s Angel Becerra in 5:57 in the first round. He then earned a 6-4 decision over Jake Trofka of Appleton North in the second round, earning a chance to wrestle for first place. In the first place match, Moderson lost a 13-7 decision to Hortonville’s Cam Luker. Moderson then wrestled Cody Sawyer of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln for second place, pinning Sawyer in 1:50 to capture second place.

145 pounds

Carlos Enamorado lost his first round match by pin in 5:25 to Logan Coppenger of Appleton North. He bounced back to beat Will Golubeff of Xavier/St. Mary Central in round two by a pin in 56 seconds. Coppenger lost a chance to wrestle for second place, giving him fourth place by rule, and Enamorado took fifth place.

152 pounds

Gabe Oswald won his first round match by pin in 1:19 over Braden Bunnow of Appleton East. Oswald then lost by pin in 3:48 to Elliott Luker of Hortonville. Oswald bounced back to defeat Dan Oyler of Neenah by pin in 1:53 to earn a chance to wrestle for second place. In the second place match, Oswald was pinned by Brock Benitz of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in 0:57. Oswald took third place.

160 pounds

Austin Wyngaard had a first round bye and then earned a 4-0 decision over Hortonville’s Brad Conger in the second round. In the first place match, he lost by pin in 5:12 to Peyton Einerson of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Wrestling for second place, Wyngaard topped Forrest Yineman of Neenah by a 9-4 decision to capture second place in his bracket.

170 pounds

Christian Hecht lost his first round match by pin in 0:53 to Bryce Brown of Appleton East. Brown later lost a match that would have allowed him to wrestle for second place, and he earned fourth place by rule since he had beaten Hecht earlier. Hecht took fifth place.

182 pounds

Remington Steele lost his first round match by pin in 1:50 to Michael Hills of Hortonville. Hills later lost a chance to earn a spot in the match for second place, giving him fourth place by rule since he had previously beaten Steele. Steele took fifth place.

195 pounds

Andrew Clauss started the day by pinning Hortonville’s Nate Bohman just 45 seconds into their first round match. Clauss then lost a 13-8 decision to Adam Gusky of Appleton West in the second round. Clauss bounced back to beat Matt Lange of Neenah by pin in 48 seconds, earning a chance at second place. Gusky lost in the first place match, giving him second place by rule since he had beaten Clauss in the second round. Clauss took third place in his bracket.

220 pounds

Justin Behnke lost his first round match by pin in 3:32 to Appleton West’s Max Cabrera. He faced Nick Ledwith of Neenah in the match for fourth place, but Ledwith pinned Behnke in 3:17. Behnke took fifth place.

No wrestlers competed for the Bulldogs at 106 pounds and 285 pounds.

Sectionals

Bulldog wrestlers who advanced will compete at Sectionals at Green Bay West High School on Saturday, Feb. 21. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
