Poppy, Dorothy J.

Dorothy Jean (Krueger) Poppy, age 87, Shawano, formerly of New London was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. 

Dorothy Jean Poppy, daughter of the late Charles and Helena (Kuschel) Krueger, was born September 7, 1927 in the Town of Larrabee in Waupaca County. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1945. She married Malon Samuel Poppy on November 29, 1947 and they lived in New London. She was a telephone operator until 1957. Dorothy was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of New London, served on Ladies Aid and was active in the LWMS. She worked at Hillshire Farm for 14 years and retired in 1989. Dorothy lived her life for Jesus. She had a passion for life and instilled this passion in her children and grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed doing all sorts of crafts: sewing, knitting, crochet, cut glass, gardening, canning, pickling, making Christmas cookies, candies and ornaments, whatever craft of the day was, she would try it. She enjoyed spending her free time with her husband at their cabin on the lake in Elcho, WI. She loved to fish off the dock and watch the sunset on the lake. 

She is survived by her children– Steven (Patricia) Poppy, Patricia (Glenn) Kohn, Lea (Gary) Herzfeldt, David (Aurea) Poppy; 11 grandchildren– Steven (Mayoko), Sean (Kacee), James (Linda) Poppy, Tara (Stephen) Costner, David and Angela Blissett, Jesse (special friend Lindsay), Gary Jr. (Amber), and Andy Herzfeldt (special friend Chantell), Michael and Mechalle Poppy; six great grandchildren– Nenemi, Sanomi, Lauren, Laina Poppy; Gary III, Willow Herzfeldt; one brother– David (Edith) Krueger. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Malon Samuel Poppy, who passed away in 1993 after five years of retirement from his profession as an electrician. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with the Rev. William Heiges officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. The family would like to extend a special thank you to ThedaCare and Friends of Hospice in Shawano for the excellent care they provided to Dorothy.
