Propsom, Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann Propsom, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, 64, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Thursday afternoon, February 19, 2015 while at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay. 

She was born June 28, 1950 in Iola, the daughter of the late Harold David and Donna Mae (Fietzer) Shanklin. Ruth graduated from Iola-Scandinavia High School in 1968 and went on to study home economics at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point for three-and-a-half years. She then studied at the Wisconsin School of Cosmetology. On December 2, 1972, Ruth was united in marriage to Ralph “John” Propsom at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. They were blessed with over 42 years of marriage. In Sturgeon Bay, Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked as a hair stylist at several places in Sturgeon Bay over the years. For 22 years, Ruth was a part of the team at Baylake Bank, working in bookkeeping and customer service. She was a great cook and always enjoyed going up to Al Johnson’s for breakfast in the afternoon. Ruth liked to needlepoint, reading, watching classic movies, and going for walks in Potawatomi and Newport State Parks. She will be remembered for being a kind, strong, calm and easy-going person. 

Ruth’s love will live on in the hearts of those she will be deeply missed by: her husband, John of Sturgeon Bay; son, Hunter (Devinn) Propsom of North Pole, AK; daughter, Heather (Nick) Wesselman of Bay View (Milwaukee); four grandchildren, Maeve, Rayne, and Grace Propsom and Sage Wesselman; two brothers, Paul (Kathy) and Scott (Nicole) Shanklin, both of Iola; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Roger) Nash of Wauwatosa, Cherie Boudwin of Sturgeon Bay; many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially those at Baylake Bank. She was welcomed Home by her parents. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Bob Stegmann as celebrant. Ruth was laid to rest in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends called from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and again, Tuesday morning, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of closing prayers at 10:30 a.m, followed by the procession to church.
