Tomlinson passed over for hockey award

Despite leading the state in scoring, Waupaca’s Mandy Tomlinson did not make the final cut for the Miss Hockey Wisconsin Award.

The Girls Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association gives the award to the state’s top player.

Tomlinson and 10 other players were nominated for the award, which will be presented during the WIAA state tournament in Madison.

Other nominated players are Ali Takkunen (Hudson), Courtney Wittig (Bay Area), Jacyn Reeves (Onalaska), Kelly Knetter (Central Wisconsin), Lauren Smith (Northern Edge), Kenzie Torpy (Stoughton), Madeline Spangenberg (Hayward/Spooner), Maegan Sheehan (Metro Lynx), Natalie West (Appleton United) and Nina Andersen (University School).

The final six are Wittig, Reeves, Smith, Torpy, West and Andersen.

Tomlinson led the state in scoring with 94 points (57 goals, 37 assists). Wittig had the highest point total among the six finalists with 60 (40 goals, 20 assists).
