Four area wrestlers place at state

Four of the nine area wrestlers that competed at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Meet returned home with medals after placing at the tournament, held Feb. 26-28 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Almond-Bancroft/Stevens Point Pacelli’s Cole Warzynski won the Division 3 285-pound state championship by pinning Bruce’s Donny Ralston in 2:58.  Warzynski pinned two of the three opponents he faced in his first trip to state and finished with a 47-3 record.

Meanwhile, Weyauwega-Fremont’s Andy Bork wrapped up his wrestling career with a sixth-place finish at 285 in Division 3.

New London’s Scott Cook placed sixth at 132 pounds in Division 1 and Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Taylor Rivers placed fifth at 182 pounds in Division 2.

Also competing from the area but not placing were Hortonville’s Jacob Barnett (Division 1, 113 pounds), Curtis Diedrich (126), Joe Cliver (145) and Elliot Luker (152); and Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Marcus Kasuboski (Division 2, 160).
