Students perform in Solo and Ensemble

Students from St. Martin Lutheran School in Clintonville participated in the WSMA sanctioned Solo and Ensemble Festival Saturday, March 7.

This years’ festival was held at Waupaca High School.

The grade 5-8 participants left St. Martin at 6:30 a.m. to demonstrate their hard work to adjudicators who rated their performance with 1 being the highest rating in each class of difficulty. Some performed solo’s and others ensembles.

The students also had a chance to see large group ensembles from other schools including jazz bands, swing choirs, brass and woodwind ensembles. All of St. Martins’ musicians scored high throughout the day.

Results:

Kayla Klemp (Alto sax), Blake Hopp (Baritone sax), Mitchell Behnke (Tenor sax) and Cameron Zeinert (Alto sax) received a class C 1 rating on their saxophone quartet.

Trent Laack and Cameron Zeinert received a class C 1 on their alto saxophone duet.

Alicia Yaeger and Zeke Fietsch received a class C 1 on their trumpet duet.

Jena Schoneck and Breana Malueg received a class C 1 on their clarinet duet.

Mitchell Behnke received a class C 1 on his tenor saxophone solo. Nicole Kirchner received a class C 1 on her concert snare drum solo. Jena Schoneck received a Class C 2 on her Piano solo.

The hand bell ensemble (Directed by Ben Piering) received a Class C 1.

Moving up to Class B, Joe Shelton received a 2 on his trumpet solo and Kayla Klemp received a 1 on her alto saxophone and piano solo.

The participants were graded on musical aspects like expression, rhythmic and note accuracy, intonation and balance.
