Ice rescue reported on White Lake

A 73-year-old New London man fell through the ice on White Lake in Royalton Sunday.

The Waupaca County 911 center received a call shortly before 5 p.m. that a fisherman had fallen through the ice about one-half mile from the eastern shore of the lake.

Deputies, Weyauwega firefighters and Gold Cross Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

As rescue workers were arriving at the boat landing, two other men who were fishing nearby went onto the ice and used a rope to pull the man out of the water.

Firefighters then brought the three men back to shore safely.

The two other men, who are from Waupaca and Fremont, said they had been fishing on another part of the lake when they heard the man yelling for help. They said he was in the water for about 10 minutes.

Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Pat Gorchals reported that the man was able to walk back to the shore on his own, but he was transported to the New London hospital to be examined.
