Isham, Gilbert E.

Gilbert E. Isham, age 82, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Residence in New London. 

He was born on August 5, 1932 in the Town of Lake, WI to the late Homer and Frances (Schoonover) Isham. Gilbert was united in marriage to Ardith Lappin on May 28, 1953 in Milwaukee. He started out working in residential and commercial carpentry and then worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Milwaukee for 25 years, retiring in 1983. Gilbert served in the Army Infantry during the Korean Conflict. A biography was written about his experiences in Korea called, “Wounded In Action” by John Sullivan. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. 

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Ardith; a son, Dennis (Deatra) Isham, West Jordan, UT; one brother, George (Nancy) Isham, Littleton, CO; two sisters, Betty (Warren) Cartensen, Brookfield, WI and Mary Edna (Carm) Alberti, Brookfield, WI; one brother-in-law, Al Hanke, Helenville, WI. He is further survived by two grandchildren, Michelle Isham and Ami (Mike) Masse; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kaiden and Misha; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil, Homer and Bill and one sister, Barbara Hanke. 

Funeral services for Gilbert will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in New London with the Rev. Kate Croskery-Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Military honors will be held and burial will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, King.
