Werth charged with felony OWI

Michael J. Werth, 43, New London, was charged with a fourth drunken driving offense and felony bail jumping.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 28, Deputy Bryan Strobusch was monitoring traffic on County Trunk O near Symco Road when he saw a vehicle approach the intersection so fast that it slammed on its brakes, screeching its tires. The vehicle then rolled through the stop sign and accelerated to more than 75 mph, according to the criminal complaint.

Strousch made a traffic stop and suspected Werth was intoxicated. A preliminary breath test indicated Werth had a 0.169 blood-alcohol level.

Werth was prviously convicted of drunken driving in July 1997, June 2000 and November 2001.

On March 5, Werth was charged in Outagamie County with felony strangulation, misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct as acts of domestic abuse. He was released on a $2,500 signature bond with the condition that he not commit any crimes.
