Iola man charged with felony OWI

Brian C. West, 35, Iola, was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with a fourth drunken driving offense and operating after revocation.

At 7:20 p.m. Monday, April 13, Sgt. Paul Zierler with the Iola Police Department observed a green Toyota sports utility vehicle pull out of a parking lot onto Jackson Street and stop at the intersection of Jackson and McKinley streets.

According to the criminal complaint, the Toyota waited at the stop sign with its left turn signal activated. And remained there even though there was no oncoming traffic.

Zierler drove around the block and when he returned to the intersection, the vehicle was still there with its left turn signal still activated.

He reported that the vehicle then turned right, then immediately right again, and re-entered the parking lot.

Zierler followed the vehicle into the parking lot and spoke with the driver, identified as West, who reportedly seemed intoxicated.

West has three prior drunken driving convictions and is restricted to a 0.02 blood-alcohol level while driving, the complaint says.

His license was revoked for 30 months in November 2013 after his third OWI conviction.
