Short-handed Comets fall

The scoring drought continues for the Waupaca girls’ soccer team.

The Comets dropped a 4-0 decision April 24 to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.

“It was tough going offensively, as we had a number of players missing the match,” coach Mark Polebitski said. “We played iron-woman soccer for the last 20 minutes when we exhausted all our subs to injury.”

The Comets returned to Eastern Valley Conference play April 28 at home against Winneconne and will head to Little Chute Thursday, April 30, for a 4:45 p.m. matchup with the Mustangs.

Waupaca’s junior varsity team will also host its annual invitational Saturday, May 2, with games to get under way at 9 a.m. Teams from Amherst, Appleton East, Kimberly, Marquette, Mich., Winneconne and Fox Valley Lutheran will also compete.
