Comets get first two wins

After being outscored 9-1 in its first three Eastern Valley Conference games, the Waupaca girls’ soccer team now has a pair of EVC wins under its belt.

The Comets shut out Ripon 2-0 May 4 and handed Little Chute a 3-2 loss April 30, but also fell to Winneconne 2-0 April 28.

Waupaca 2, Ripon 0

WAUPACA – Alyssa Nicewander scored second-half goals off of assists from Julia Slattery and Nikky Weise while goalkeeper Taylor Korth stopped all three of Ripon’s shots.

Waupaca finished with 14 shots in the game and improved to 2-3 in EVC play and 2-9-1 overall.

Waupaca 3, Little Chute 2

LITTLE CHUTE – The Comets outshot the Mustangs 18-14 to get their first win of the season.

Nicewander opened the scoring five minutes into the game off of an assist from Weise and Ashley Jeske gave the Comets a 2-0 lead, with Nicewander picking up the assist.

The Mustangs tied the game on goals from Kendra Schumacher and Nicole Sanderfoot, but Nicewander came up with the game-winner on an unassisted goal at the 60-minute mark.

Korth finished with 12 saves.

Winneconne 2, Waupaca 0

WAUPACA – The Wolves stayed unbeaten in EVC play by outshooting the Comets 15-5.

Kajali Robinson found the net for Winneconne in the first half and Amanda Bach scored in the second half.

Korth finished with 13 saves.

The Comets hosted Menasha St. Mary Central May 5 and will head to Appleton to take on Fox Valley Lutheran at 4:45 p.m. Friday, May 8.
