Little Chute sweeps Comet’s track meet

Waupaca’s and Weyauwega-Fremont’s track teams competed April 28 at a five-team meet at Waupaca High School.

Team scores for the boys were Little Chute (136). Waupaca (80), Ripon (79), Wausau East (52) and Weyauwega-Fremont (27). Team scores for the girls were Little Chute (83), Wausau East (81), Waupaca (80), Weyauwega-Fremont (74) and Ripon (47).

Firsts for Waupaca went to Tatiana Sotka in the girls’ 100- and 200-meter dashes (13.09, 26.7); Michelle Petovsek in the girls’ 400-meter dash and 800-meter run (1:01.22, 2:25.84); Avrey Simonson in the girls’ long and triple jumps (15 feet, 7 1/2 inches and 34 feet, 4 3/4 inches); and Derrick Rotta in the boys’ discus (120 feet, 11 inches).

Firsts for Weyauwega-Fremont went to Cara Volz in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles (16.51); Becky Schroeder in the girls’ high jump (5 feet); Gwynette Koch in the girls’ discus (89 feet, 1 inch); and Andy Bork in the boys’ shot put (41 feet, 1 3/4 inches).

Waupaca also competed April 30 in the Gil Frank Papermaker Invitational in Kimberly.

The boys and girls placed sixth with 62 and 66 points, respectively.

Firsts for the Comets went to Sotka in the girls’ 100 and 200 (12.81, 26.2); Petkovsek in the girls’ 800 (2:26.18); and the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Travis Heschke, Brogan Kendziora, Brandon Anderson and Nic Joch (1:33.94).

Waupaca will host the annual Vic-Tree Invitational Thursday, May 7. Teams from New London, Freedom, Stevens Point Pacelli, Rosholt, Plainfield Tri-County and Wautoma will also compete. Events are scheduled to get under way at 4 p.m.
