Season winding down for boys’ golf squads

The postseason is right around the corner for the area’s four boys’ golf teams.

However, there’s still plenty of golf to be played before conference, regional and sectional meets.

Waupaca EVC meet

BERLIN – Berlin outshot the Comets by five strokes May 11 at an Eastern Valley Conference meet at Berlin’s Mascoutin Golf Club.

Team scores were Berlin (169), Waupaca (174) and Freedom (184).

Hunter Carrick led Waupaca with a 42, followed by Turner Kelly and Ben Stone (43); Max Hansen (46) and Frankie Ellingson (50).

Berlin’s Sam Marks turned in the medalist round with a 37.

Waupaca’s junior varsity team finished behind Berlin and ahead of Freedom with a 195. Scores for the Comets were Noah Carrick and Mason Gardner (47); Elliot Crisman (49); Ryan Pulvermacher (52); and Alex Panzenhagen (63).

Freedom Scramble

FREEDOM – The Comets headed to Freedom’s Irish Waters Golf Club May 8 for the Freedom Scramble.

Kelly and Hunter Carrick teamed up to shot Waupaca’s low round of 71, followed by Stone and Crisman (73); and Ellingson and Hansen (77).

Waupaca placed second with a team score of 144, while Appleton Xavier took first with a 136.

Wautoma Scramble

WAUTOMA – The Comets won the Wautoma Scramble May 54 at the Waushara Country Club with a score of 213, one shot ahead of Berlin.

Kelly and Hunter Carrick placed second as a duo with a round of 69, while Ellingson and Hansen also carded a 69 and tied for third and Stone and Crisman shot a 75.

The Comets will head to Green Bay’s Thornberry Creek Country Club Wednesday, May 20, for the Eastern Valley Conference meet, which also includes teams from Berlin, Clintonville, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Ripon, Winneconne and Xavier.

Weyauwega-Fremont CWC meet

WEYAUWEGA – The Indians wrapped up Central Wisconsin Conference match play May 11 by defeating Amherst, Shiocton and Wittenberg-Birnamwood at Weymont Run Country Club.

“The weather turned around for the better and so did our scores,” coach Melinda Brace said.

Trevor Flease carded a 43 to lead the Indians, followed by Alex Hulbert (45), Taylor Berndt (48), Jacob Young (49) and Noah Buhrow (61).

W-F Invitational

WAUPACA – The Indians hosted a 10-team invitational May 9 at the Waupaca Country Club and placed third.

Team scores were Marathon (341), Newman Catholic (345), W-F (367), Iola-Scandinavia (381), Pacelli (386), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (393), Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (413), Bonduel (436), Marion (458) and Manawa (incomplete team).

W-F scores were Hulbert (81), Flease (88), Berndt (96), Jacob Young (102) and Will Young (108).

CWC meet

GREEN BAY – W-F placed fifth May 5 at an 11-team Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Thornberry Creek Country Club in Green Bay.

Team scores were Iola-Scandinavia (386), Stevens Point Pacelli (387), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (389), Manawa (404), W-F (411), Amherst (423), Bonduel (435), Gresham (463), Marion (483), Shiocton (494) and Menominee Indian (incomplete team).

Hulbert led the Indians with an 18-hole round of 95, followed by Flease (100), Will Young (107), Jacob Young (109) and Berndt (110).

CWC meet

MARION – Hulbert turned in the low round of the day for the Indians May 4 with a 37 at Perry’s Landing Golf Course.

Other scores for W-F were Flease (43), Jacob Young (47), Berndt (48) and Will Young (49).

Iola-Scandinavia W-F Invitational

WAUPACA – Zach Mortenson led the Thunderbirds with a 42 as I-S placed fourth out of 10 teams May 9 at the Waupaca Country Club.

Other scores for the T-Birds were Jon Bauer (90), Chase Przybylski (98), Cody Breitzke (111) and Carter Przybylski (119).

Manawa W-F Invitational

WAUPACA – Ryan Schuelke was the only Manawa golfer to compete May 9 at the Waupaca Country Club and shot an 87.

CWC meet

GREEN BAY – The Wolves placed fourth May 5 at a meet at Green Bay’s Thornberry Creek Country Club with a score of 404.

Schuelke led the Wolves with a 92, followed by David Blum (93), Matt Radloff (109) and Scott Schuelke (110).

CWC meet

HORTONVILLE – Ryan Schuelke had the low round of a four-team meet May 4 at Hortonville’s Eagle Creek Golf Club with a 38.

Team scores were Manawa (194), Amherst (198), Bonduel (202) and Shiocton (211).

Other scores for Manawa were Blum (49), Scott Schuelke (52) and Radloff (55).

W-F, I-S and Manawa will head to Waupaca’s Foxfire Golf Club Thursday, May 21, for the CWC meet, which gets under way at 9 a.m. Teams from Amherst, Bonduel, Gresham, Marion, Pacelli, Shiocton, Menominee Indian and Wittenberg-Birnamwood will also compete.
