W-F baseball team picks up wins

Weyauwega-Fremont’s baseball team picked up recent Central Wisconsin 8 Conference wins over Manawa and Iola-Scandinavia.

The Indians handed Manawa a 5-1 loss May 11 and defeated the Thunderbirds 10-9 in nine innings May 7.

MANAWA – W-F scored twice in the fifth inning and added three more in the seventh.

Manawa scored its run in the bottom of the seventh.

Logan Bosquez got the win on the mound and also had two of the Indians’ nine hits. Trevor Wetzel and Collin Jorgensen also had two hits.

Luke Wilz took the loss for the Wolves and had two of Manawa’s five hits.

WEYAUWEGA – Wetzel had a big day at the plate, as he had three of this team’s 13 hits and hit a home run.

The Thunderbirds opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the third inning, but the Indians answered with six runs in the third.

I-S came up with four more runs in the fourth and two in the sixth and W-F scored three times in the fourth.

The teams headed into extra innings tied at 9-9 and W-F came up with the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth.

Bosquez got the win, while Cam Gruenwald took the loss.

Bryce Akey, Sam Schoenick and Jorgensen had two hits for the Indians. Nate Korb, Gruenwald and Jayden Sivertson each had three of the Thunderbirds’ 17 hits.

All three teams have home games scheduled for Thursday, May 14. W-F will host Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 4:30 p.m., I-S will take on Bonduel in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and Manawa will host Amherst at 4:30 p.m.
