Bulldogs split a pair

With the regular season winding down, the New London High School girls’ softball team split a pair of games last week.

They started the week by hosting Luxemburg-Casco on Tuesday, May 12.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Luxemburg-Casco scored two runs. They added two more run the following inning, and another run in the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs didn’t score a run until their final at bat, but it was too little, too late, as they lost 5-1.

Shelby Sommer and Molly O’Connell each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Also collecting hits were McCoy Mix and Ashlee Moeller.

Sommer took the loss for New London, tossing six innings, and giving five earned runs. She allowed six hits, three walks, and struck out one batter. O’Connell pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Bulldogs got back on the winning track when they traveled to Seymour on Thursday, May 14.

New London jumped all over Seymour in this game, scoring five runs in the first inning, one in the second inning, two in the third inning, and three in the fourth inning to take an 11-0 win.

The team pounded out 10 hits, with Sommer, Payton Mix, and Ashlee Moeller leading the way with two hits apiece. Also collecting hits were Alanna Beyer, Abby Elsholtz, Leah Porath, and McCoy Mix.

O’Connell pitched a complete game for New London, giving up two hits and two works, while striking out eight batters.
