Ellingson named top EVC golfer

Waupaca didn’t win the Eastern Valley Conference boys’ golf meet, but one of its golfers has been named the EVC’s player of the year.

Frankie Ellingson carded a 77 May 20 at Green Bay’s Thornberry Creek Country Club and the Comets finished three shots behind Xavier. He shared medalist honors at the meet with Berlin’s Sam Marks.

Ben Stone, who joined Ellingson on the all-conference first team, finished a stroke behind with an 83.

Other scores for Waupaca were Turner Kelly (83), Hunter Carrick (88) and Max Hansen (94).

Kelly and Carrick made the all-conference second and third teams, respectively.

Team scores were Xavier (327), Waupaca (330), Berlin (345), Freedom (361), Fox Valley Lutheran (366), Winneconne (379), Ripon (393), Little Chute (395) and Clintonville (411).

Waupaca competed with Clintonville, Freedom, Marinette, Mosinee, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour and Wittenberg-Birnamwood May 26 at a Division 2 regional at Seymour’s Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Sectional-qualifying teams and individuals will advance to the Freedom Sectional, to be held Tuesday, June 2, at Freedom’s Irish Waters Golf Club.
