Sasman, John J.

John J. Sasman, age 92, Bear Creek, passed away on Friday, July 03, 2015.

He was born in Black Creek, August 1, 1922, son of the late Phillip and Elsie (Hanf) Sasman. John entered the US Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was so honored in one of his last achievements participating in the Old Glory Honor Flight in May of 2012. In April of 1950, John married Betty Ann Lehman; she preceded him in death September of 1966. He then married Naomi Yanke on July 13, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. John worked at the Neenah Foundry for many years retiring in 1986. He was a resident of Bear Creek for 60 years and a member of Grace Lutheran and served as a volunteer, janitor and lawn keeper. John especially enjoyed woodworking, gardening (vegetables) and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Naomi; children: Kathy Sasman, Philip (Myrna) Sasman, Annette (Michael) Laughlin, Kevin (Suzette) Sasman and Janet Laughlin; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Sasman. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Betty Ann, son Michael Sasman, grandson Troy Sasman, sisters, Esther and Ruth and brothers, Alvin, Orlo, and Lloyd.

Funeral services for John were held on Monday, July 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bear Creek with Rev. Michael Stock officiating. Burial is in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Bear Creek. Military Rites were held. Visitation was held at the church on Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Valley VNA, staff at St. Joseph Residence, Heartland Hospice and the Grace Lutheran Pastor Stock and Lutheran Ladies Aid for all the care and concern they have shown to John.
