Rotary offers youth leadership training

The Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club will sponsor three high school students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program.

RYLA is Rotary’s leadership training program for young people.

Through the Rotary Youth Exchange Awards, Rotary clubs bring together a diverse fellowship of young leaders from different backgrounds, levels of education, religions, and areas of extracurricular involvement to collaborate, learn, grow and take on the opportunities of their generation.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth. The conference brings out leadership skills in individuals through team building concepts and outdoor-based activities that include trust-building exercises, problem-solving initiatives, and low and high challenge courses.

The three-day leadership retreat will be held on from Oct. 2-4 at Camp Manito-wish YMCA near Boulder Junction, Wisconsin.

The program is being offered to students who will be high school sophomores or juniors during the 2015-16 school year.

The Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club will pay the entire registration cost for the retreat. The students and their families will be expected to provide transportation to and from the retreat.

Students who would like further information about the RYLA program should contact Rotarian Chris Anthony at 715-572-6367. The deadline for registration is Aug. 15.
