Driver killed in high-speed chase

A 42-year-old man was killed in a crash shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, on County Trunk Q near Weller Lane in the town of Farmington.

A Waupaca County sheriff’s deputy reported seeing a 2015 Ford Mustang operating recklessly near the intersection of State Highway 54 and County QQ, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The deputy activated his emergency lights to make a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.

The deputy then activated his siren and pursued the vehicle.

The driver continued west on State 54, then north on County Q.

On County Q near Weller Lane the driver failed to negotiate a curve, going off the road and striking a culvert before overturning.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Waupaca County coroner.

Information regarding the name of the deceased has not yet been released.
