Sasse, Allen “Al” A.

Allen “Al” A. Sasse, age 90 of the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday evening, August 23, 2015.

Al was born on March 17, 1925 in Clintonville, as the son of the late Benjamin and Olga (Hoffmann) Sasse. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1943. Al joined the United States Army serving with the infantry during WWII from June of 1943 until his honorable discharge in December of 1945. During this time he earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. To listen to him talk about his service would have made any American both humble and grateful to live in the best country on the planet. Following his service, Al returned to Clintonville where he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Rhode on November 7, 1951 at St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a life-long member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Al worked as a lineman for Wisconsin Power & Light for 38 years until his retirement. He was also an outdoorsman through and through and loved to share his passion with his family whether it was trapping, hunting, fishing, or just spending time at the cottage.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Rose Mary Sasse; children: Debra (Robert) Behnke, Jeffery Sasse, Peter (Jeannie) Sasse, Christina (William) Mueller, and Michael (Gretchen) Sasse, all of Clintonville; grandchildren: Jennifer Behnke, Brooke Behnke, Kandy Sasse, Julie (Brian) Stamm, Melissa (Steven) Radmer, Misty (Ted) Domers, and Alicia (Zachary) Zirbel; great-grandchildren: Jaden Reese, Hannah Domers, and Isaac Domers; siblings: Willard “Spud” (Fae) Sasse, Clintonville; Merritt Sasse, Clintonville; Gladys Du Mee’, Marion; Betty June Millard, Clintonville; and Mary Ann Romberg, Marion. Allen was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Benjamin Sasse, and brothers: Edward, Earl, Leslie, and Arlen Sasse.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 1 p.m. at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with Rev. Christian Burg and Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, also in Clintonville with military graveside rites conducted by members of the Clintonville American Legion Post #63 and VFW Post #664. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, Al’s family would appreciate memorials to St. Martin Lutheran School Tuition Fund, 100 S.
