New London High School teacher Philip Sloma has joined the Friends of the New London Public Museum Board of Directors.

FNLPM board president Jennifer Grumann said Sloma was elected at the organization’s June board meeting to fulfill a partial term that opened up earlier this year.

Sloma has been teaching at New London High School since 2003. He is currently the social studies department chairperson and has taught U.S. history, civics, world history and psychology classes during his tenure. In addition to his teaching, he has coached middle school and high school track and field along with seventh-grade boys’ basketball.

Sloma lives in New London with his wife and three children.

“I think the New London Public Museum is a tremendous resource to the area and particularly our schools,” Sloma said. “I am excited to join the Friends board and help create awareness and support for our Museum.”
