Arson suspected in Waupaca fire

Police conducted raid at same home earlier

A Waupaca police officer was on patrol at 12:50 a,m, Friday, Aug. 28. when he saw that a house was on fire at 608 W. Union St.

Waupaca firefighters responded and entered the house through the front and side doors.

They found the fire was most intense in a kitchen on the lower level of the tri-level home. The flames extended up the staircase and through an access opening into the attic.

The lower level and attic were the most severely damaged by flames, according to the fire department’s report. There was smoke damage throughout the interior of the house and it appears the house is a complete loss.

No injuries were reported and no one was in the residence at the time of the fire.

“Evidence indicates a strong likelihood that this is a case of arson,” Waupaca Police Chief Tim Goke said.

This is the same residence where Waupaca police assisted Plover police in executing a search warrant on Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about this fire is asked to contact the Waupaca Police Department at 715-258-4400 or Waupaca Area Crime Stoppers at 888-258-9955.
