Ricardo J. Gonzales, 51, Manitowoc, is charged in Waupaca County with attempted forgery.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, Marion Police Chief Kevin Schultz responded to a fraudulent check reported at First National Bank. The teller told police a man was trying to cash a suspicious check from Krueger’s Sign and Electric in Clintonville.

When he arrived, Schultz saw a man in an untucked, white button-down shirt with a tie and a baseball cap standing at the clerk’s window. According to the criminal complaint, the man started to leave the bank when he saw the chief, but Schultz detained him for questioning.

The man was identified as Gonzales, and police say he claimed to be a field representative for Krueger’s.

When Schultz called Krueger’s, he was told Gonzales was not employed there.

The fraudulent check’s routing number also belonged to Krueger’s dairy business rather than the sign business and had been made out to a Minnesota vendor.
