A slow start hurt the Waupaca volleyball team in its North Eastern Conference opener.

Luxemburg-Casco swept Waupaca Sept. 3 in the conference opener for both teams.

Meanwhile, Waupaca dropped three of four matches Sept. 1 at the Bonduel Invitational.

L-C 3, Waupaca 0
LUXEMBURG – The Spartans scored the first 15 points of the opening set and went on to post a 25-6 win. The second and third games were closer, but L-C picked up 25-11 and 25-18 wins.
“After a slow start, we did improve our play each game against a very good Luxemburg-Casco team,” coach Chelsea Benitz said. “We are starting to get where we need to on defense, but are still working on minimizing the errors we make and becoming more aggressive on offense.”

Bonduel Invitational
BONDUEL – Waupaca defeated Suring 20-25, 25-22, 15-10; fell to Omro 21-25, 11-25; lost to Laona/Wabeno 21-25, 22-25; and came up short against Bonduel 17-25, 22-25.

The Comets will host Oconto Falls at 7:30 Thursday, Sept. 10, before taking on Bonduel, Southern Door, St. Mary’s Springs and Shiocton Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Shiocton Invitational. Matches are slated to get underway at 9 a.m.
