Woman injured in car-truck crash

A 22-year-old woman was seriously injured when her Ford Escape hit a truck shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the town of Mukwa.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, Jena L. Sommer, of New London, was westbound on State Highway 54 about a quarter mile east of Otto Road when she failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the center line into the path of an eastbound truck.

Sommer’s vehicle struck the rear wheel area of the truck, skidded, then rolled over and came to rest in the eastbound lane of traffic. She was airlifted for emergency medical treatment by ThedaStar.

The truck driver, Robert Hansen, 74, New London, suffered minor injuries and did not require medical transport.
