Convict now charged with rape

New London man faces more prison time

A New London man serving five years in prison for armed robbery is now charged with first-degree sexual assault.

Harlon W. Raymond Jr., 25, is charged in Waupaca County with first-degree sexual assault and repeated sexual assault of a child.

On March 27, Detective Jason Meidl, with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, met with an 18-year-old woman who was six months pregnant.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman said she had been staying at her grandparents’ home in New London when Raymond came into the bedroom where she was sleeping and forced himself on her. She believed Raymond was the father of her child.

The woman also told the detective that Raymond had sex with her when she was about 12-13 years old.

Raymond has a history of criminal activity that dates back to his teens.

In October 2007, Raymond was convicted of two counts of theft in Waupaca County and placed on two years of probation with 10 days in jail. His probation was revoked on July 23, 2008, and Raymond was sentenced to five months in jail.

In September 2010, Raymond was convicted in Waupaca County of burglary and placed on three years of probation.

In January 2011, Raymond was placed on three years of probation in Waupaca County after being convicted of burglary, theft, two counts of felony bail jumping and resisting an officer. Charges of hit and run, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct were dismissed but read into the record.

In February 2011, Raymond was convicted in Waushara County of burglary and sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison with four years of extended supervision.

In June 2011, Raymond was convicted in Portage County of contributing to the deliquency of a minor and sentenced to three years in prison, to be served concurrently to his Waushara County sentence.

On Aug. 5, 2014, Raymond was released from prison on extended supervision. Less than four months later, he was involved in an armed robbery in Portage County.

At 12:43 a.m. on Nov. 30, 2014, two masked men with an assault rifle entered the Wigwam Inn in the town of Alban, robbed the bartender and drove away.

Less than eight hours later, Raymond and his cousin, 20-year-old Tanner Raymond, were arrested in Rosholt. Destiny Clinton, Harlon Raymond’s 17-year-old niece, was also arrested and charged as an accomplice. Investigators said the Manawa teen drove the get-away car.

All three were subsequently charged and convicted of armed robbery in Portage County.

On Aug. 31, Harlon Raymond was sentenced to five years in state prison, which will be served consecutively to another sentence he is currently serving.

While his robbery case was pending, Raymond’s extended supervision in Waushara County was revoked, and he was returned to state prison.

He faces up to 60 more years in prison if convicted of first-degree sexual assault.
