Truckers remain competitive

Clintonville soccer team loses to FVL

Although the Clintonville Truckers soccer team didn’t get the win it hoped for against Fox Valley Lutheran, Truckers coach Roger Lupien said the team had a better encounter with FVL than usual last week.

“Our matches with Fox Valley [Lutheran] have historically been one-sided affairs,” Lupien said. “It is rewarding to see the Clintonville program improve to the point where they can be more competitive with established programs like Fox Valley Lutheran.”

The Truckers lost 4-1 to FVL in Clintonville on Thursday, Oct. 1. In the first half Josh Schroeder scored the Truckers’ goal, assisted by Juan Santiago.

Lupien said the team remained strong for the first half, but in the second half the Truckers accidentally helped FVL.

“Unfortunately we chipped the ball into our own net, and took all of our momentum away,” Lupien said. “I was pleased that we didn’t panic and start dumping the ball down the field.”

“We continued to look for open teammates and make controlled passes, which is our best style of play,” Lupien said.
Lupien said senior goalie Bob McCoy did an outstanding job to keep the Truckers in the game and sophomore stopper Cesar Elias displayed the strongest performance.
