Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel is alerting residents to local reports of counterfeit bills.
“Our office is investigating several complaints involving suspicious $100 and $20 bills that have been found to be counterfeit,” Hardel said.
According to investigators, the fake $20 bills appear to be new and the fake $100 bills are more rough looking.
One of the counterfeit $100 bills had pink Chinese and anti-government writing on it.
“We recommend that all businesses check the bills with a counterfeit-detector pen,” Hardel said. “You can also bring the suspicious bills to any financial institution for checking or contact your local law enforcement office.”
