Area runners named to all-conference teams

Four Thunderbirds, two Indians earn top honors

Six area cross country runners – four from Iola-Scandinavia and two from Weyauwega-Fremont – earned all-conference honors Oct. 15 at the Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Standing Rocks County Park.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Erika Kisting and Leighten Fischer made the first team after placing in the top seven in the girls’ race, while the Thunderbirds’ Jada Beacom and Weyauwega-Fremont’s Caragan Volz and Daisy Wilson made the second team. Iola-Scandinavia’s Erick Kriewaldt also made the second team on the boys’ side.

Team scores for the girls were Wittenberg-Birnamwood (61), Amherst (83), Rosholt (86), Iola-Scandinavia (101), Pacelli (102), Marion (147), Weyauwega-Fremont (156) and Bonduel (168). Manawa had an incomplete team.

Placing for the T-Birds were Kisting (second, 19:03); Fischer (fourth, 20:01); Beacom (eighth, 21:12); Natalie Rustad (39th, 23:38); and Haley Ullom (50th, 25:32).

Placing for Weyauwega-Fremont were Volz (10th, 21:23); Wilson (12th, 21:30); Saylor Alberts (34th, 23:05); Natalie Schneider (52nd, 25:49); Paige Kempf (54th, 27:00); and Emily Durrant (55th, 27:38).

Placing for Manawa were Jody Wentworth (41st, 23:48); and Brianna Severson (51st, 25:47).

Team scores for the boys were Rosholt (16), Bonduel (61), Amherst (68), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (100) and Manawa (127). Iola-Scandinavia, Marion, Pacelli, Weyauwega-Fremont and Menominee Indian had incomplete teams.

Placing for Iola-Scandinavia were Kriewaldt (13th, 18:48); and Trenton Niemi (42nd, 23:36).

Placing for Weyauwega-Fremont were Duane Brazil (23rd, 19:11); Austin Baehnman (41st, 22:54); Logan Feltz (45th, 24:19); Chris Strehlow (46th, 24:26).

Placing for Manawa were Jared Zielke (21st, 19:02); Andrew Scheller (25th, 19:21); Scott Schneider (38th, 21:17); Sebastian Wagner (39th, 21:33); Devin Loughrin (47th, 25:20); and Ethan Michalowski (48th, 25:26).

All three teams will return to Standing Rocks Saturday, Oct. 24, for the Division 3 Amherst Sectional. Amherst, Bonduel, Coleman, Gillett, Laconia, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, Lourdes Academy, Marion, Markesan, Menominee Indian, Oconto, Pardeeville, Princeton/Green Lake, Rosholt, St. Mary Catholic, Valley Christian and Wolf River Lutheran will also compete. The girls’ race will start at 10:30 a.m., with the boys’ race slated for 11:50 a.m.
