Comets host conference meet

Both Waupaca cross country teams place sixth

Four top-10 finishes helped Little Chute and Luxemburg-Casco win boys’ and girls’ championships Oct. 17 at the North Eastern Conference cross country meet at Waupaca High School.

Meanwhile, Waupaca placed three runners on all-conference teams. Mitchell Rotta made the first team with a fourth-place finish in the boys’ race, Hunter Smith placed 11th in the boys’ race to make the second team and Michelle Petkovsek also made the second team by placing 13th in the girls’ race.

The Waupaca boys and girls placed sixth.

Team scores for the boys were Little Chute (30), Freedom (83), Luxemburg-Casco (95), Oconto Falls (99), Fox Valley Lutheran (118), Waupaca (121), Marinette (174), Denmark (221), Wrightstown (237) and Clintonville (271).

Team scores for the girls were Luxemburg-Casco (44), Freedom (63), Fox Valley Lutheran (104), Clintonville (109), Marinette (124), Waupaca (161), Oconto Falls (162), Little Chute (165), Denmark (234) and Wrightstown (255).

Placing for the Comet boys were Rotta (fourth, 17:15); Smith (11th, 18:01); Danny Esch (27th, 18:56); Ryan Esch (33rd, 19:13); Ben Waitrovich (46th, 20:00); August Kuffel (57th, 21:20); and Sam Christie (58th, 21:38).

Placing for the Comet girls were Petkovsek (13th, 21:00); Ashley Jeske (29th, 22:35); MacKenzie Schultz (31st, 22:38); Victoria Nowak (40th, 23:24); and Kristin Petkovsek (48th, 24:00).

Waupaca will compete Saturday, Oct. 24, with Antigo, Clintonville, Freedom, Lakeland, Marinette, Medford, Mosinee, New London, Northland Pines, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour, Shawano, Tomahawk and Wittenberg-Birnamwood at a Division 2 sectional at Edgewater Country Club near Tomahawk. The girls’ race is set to start at 11 a.m., followed by the boys’ race at 11:45 a.m.
