Volunteers needed for tax program

CAP Services seeks volunteers to provide free tax assistance in Waupaca County.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps low- and moderate-income individuals and families in Waupaca County maximize their tax returns

Intake specialists, interpreters and tax preparers are needed to assist with the program.

“The VITA program helps households capture the tax credits and refunds due them, providing them more resources to make ends meet,” said Erin Olson, CAP’s project development coordinator. “Those dollars flow back into our communities and benefit our local economy.”

In addition to securing credits and refunds, volunteers in the program helped clients save money that would otherwise be spent on tax preparation services. With costs averaging $150 per paid return, volunteers are estimated to have saved Waupaca County taxpayers $22,000 in fees in 2015.

Volunteers do not need any previous experience. Free training will be provided for each role. Volunteers are eligible to file returns for their friends and family for free.

CAP will offer free tax preparation services at several sites throughout Waupaca County.
