Dorothy M. Smith-Richter, age 88, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Theda Care Medical Center-Waupaca.
Dorothy was born in Iola, WI on May 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lorraine (Erickson) Olson. On August 2, 1947, Dorothy married Frank Smith in Iola and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1985. On January 8, 2000, Dorothy married Melvin Richter at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Saxeville. She worked for over 25 years at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Melvin Richter, Waupaca; her sons: Steven (Valerie) Smith, Appleton; Paul (Debi) Smith, Wild Rose and Marte (Jeanne) Smith, Rhinelander; her 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and her siblings: Donald (special friend-Annie) Olson, Portage, WI; Sharon (Richard) Miller, Crystal River, FL; Robert (special friend-Leslie) Olson, Waupaca; Alden Olson, Stevens Point and Mark (Michelle) Olson, Franklin, WI. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Frank Smith, an infant daughter and an infant granddaughter.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m. at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with Reverend Andy Behrendt officiating. Burial will be on a later date in Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Iola. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
