Local netters selected for all-conference

By Greg Seubert

A pair of local volleyball players have been named the top players in their respective Central Wisconsin Conference.

Weyauwega-Fremont junior Becky Schroeder received the honor from the CWC-8, while Wild Rose senior Bre Marchan was named player of the year in the CWC-10.

Both players were also first-team all-conference selections.

Other area players earning all-conference honors from the CWC-8 include first-teamer Kaylin Ellioff of Iola-Scandinavia; second-teamers Karissa Akey and Courtney Gorges of Weyauwega-Fremont, Claire Kreklow of Manawa and Kendra Dombrowski of Amherst; and honorable mention selections Jordan Rucks of Weyauwega-Fremont, Chloe Koehn of Manawa, Emily Kroseberg of Iola-Scandinavia and Heather Pearson of Amherst.

CWC-10 all-conference players include first-teamers Maya Dix and Kylee Weasner of wild Rose; second-teamer Kristin Jenks of Wild Rose; and honorable mention selections Cora Reinke of wild Rose, Maddie Pamperin of Marion and Catie Schmidt of Almond-Bancroft.
“Becky is truly a treasure,” W-F coach Rena Tomaszewski said. “Athletic ability and a fantastic attitude make her another incredibly coachable player.”

Schroeder led the Indians in kills per set this season despite missing five matches at the end of the regular season due to mononucleosis.

“Becky has been turning heads since last season and has been gaining interest from coaches at the collegiate level,” Tomaszewski said. “I am looking forward to the possibility of another W-F volleyball player continuing their career at the next level.”

Besides being named to the all-conference team, Schroeder also earned her third varsity letter in the sport.

“Becky is always eager to learn more and doesn’t want to stop learning until she gets it right,” Tomaszewski said. “As a hitter, Becky is second to none, proving that she was the go-to hitter and wowing the crowd with her laser-like kills. Becky will no doubt have a great senior season.”
