Victoria Nowak didn’t waste any time making a big impact on the Waupaca girls’ basketball team.

The junior scored 36 of her team’s points Nov. 17 in a 66-41 nonconference loss to Ripon in the season opener for both teams.

Ripon, which competed with Waupaca the past several years in the Eastern Valley Conference, took a 32-27 halftime lead and outscored the Comets 34-14 in the second half.

Marissa Bunge scored 18 points to lead the Tigers, while Taylor Vaughn scored Waupaca’s other five points.

Ripon hit only two more shots than Waupaca (18 to 16), but made 25 of 35 free throws and took advantage of Waupaca’s 30 turnovers.

The Comets hosted Luxemburg-Casco Nov. 24 in the North Eastern Conference opener and will head to Clintonville Tuesday, Dec. 1, for a 7:15 p.m. conference matchup with the Truckers.
