Hoffman, Leon J.

Leon J. Hoffman, age 86, of Clintonville passed away peacefully Thursday, November 26, 2015 at ManorCare Health Services, Shawano, with his wife and three daughters by his side.

Leon John Hoffman was born on April 20, 1929 in Clintonville to Louis and Lydia (Boetcher) Hoffman. After graduating from Shawano High School he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Leon was united in marriage on August 8, 1953 to Joyce F. Vanderwalker. The couple had three daughters and enjoyed many loving years and special memories living on Long Lake. In his early years, Leon worked as an upholsterer in Shawano for some time and then was employed at FWD Corporation in Clintonville as a welder for a few years. Following “the drive” he worked at Oshkosh Truck for several years. Then Leon joined the Pipe Fitters Union and became a certified gas pipe line welder; working all around the state mainly with road construction projects. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post #63 of Clintonville. His interests included fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and playing pool. Leon also spent lots of time outdoors; he was good with the bow and arrow, and liked deer hunting. Just about every morning he went to the Home Plate Café in Shawano for breakfast and to visit with his friends. They were all very special friends and he enjoyed seeing each one of them.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joyce; three daughters, Tammy (Jon) Jensen, Vicky Wiseman, and Peggy Koeller; a brother-in-law, James Vanderwalker; and his beloved dog, Sara. There are six grandchildren, Matt (Crystal) Simanek, Becky (Roger) Eisel, Jason Wiseman, twins Andrew and Brian Wiseman, and Jamie (Cory) Kaepernick. He is further survived by six great-grandchildren, Brittney, Dakota, and Chelsea Eisel, Lita Wiseman, Hunter and Zoey Kaepernick; and many other relatives and friends.
