Musky event features walleyes, too

Musky Magic has a new name and a new location.

Mosquito Hill Nature Center had sponsored the fishing expo for musky fishing enthusiasts in New London for 27 years.

The event is now called the Mosquito Hill Musky & Walleye Expo and will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Hortonville Middle School in Hortonville.

The show will feature vendors and bait manufacturers for both species of fish from around the state. Educational seminars with two of the best musky and walleye anglers in the region – Pete Maina and Keith Kavajecz – will also be featured.

“We want to build on the success of (Musky Magic) by including a new dimension to the popular program,” Mosquito Hill director Mike Hibbard said. “Mosquito Hill is located in the heart of one of the best walleye fisheries in the country, so we’ve decided to offer a fishing show that features two of the most popular gamefish among Wisconsin anglers, musky and walleye.”

Kavajecz, of Kaukauna is a professional walleye fisherman specializing in tournament fishing and walleye fishing promotions. He is a Legendary Angler inductee into the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and one of the co-hosts of the popular “The Next Bite” TV show, now in its 11th season.

Maina is an authority on musky and northern pike fishing and internationally known for his prowess with both species He is an entrepreneur, accomplished author, photographer and TV personality and has authored books and several articles. Outdoor Life magazine also named him one of the “Top 20 Anglers on the Planet.”

Admission is $8 per person, while children under age 12 are admitted for free.
